Tour of the drum kit
Bass drum (kick drum)
Big drum on the bottom. Played with a foot pedal.
Snare drum
Has some wires stretched across the bottom of the drum which makes rattle, snappy sound. Usually doing the back beat, beats 2 and 4 in rock or pop.
Tom-toms
Minimal setup is rack tom and floor tom. Some drumsets will have several more toms. “Typical” drum sound.
Hi-hat
Pair of cymbals clamped together. Can be operated with foot by pushing the two cymbals together. Often used to keep time
Ride cymbal
Nice shimmery sound.
Crash cymbal
Used for drama and emphasis.
