Little hat for my new nephew Milo. I was not sure what his head size would be, so I made two versions for 4 and 6 months, which will hopefully last him a while.

I also free-hand sewed on applique of letters onto the hats with a satin stitch, basically a very narrow zig-zag. I sewed the applique on before the whole hat was sewn together, so that the stitches wouldn’t be visible on the inside. I used Soluvlies, a water-soluble interfacing that is put on top and on the backside of the applique to make it easy to sew it on. Then afterwards it will just be dissolved in water. The didn’t work without problems. After soaking the hat in water and drying it, there was still some starchy remainder on the fabric. So after the hats were completely finished, I gave them all a good wash in the washing machine.
Fabric
Leftover fabrics: Quite thick jersey with narwal print that I had used in a self-drafted t-shirt, and a very soft cream-coloured terry that I had used to make two Southbank jumpers. Both fabrics were from Kattun Stoffe.
Improvements
Next time I would make the ears a little bit bigger. It’s very tricky to sew around the tiny ears, especially with the required zig-zag stitch to keep everything elastic. My ears got a bit ugly, with some sharp angles in them.
